Centre of Dortmund's trade fair and event landscape
Since the construction of the first hall, the Westfalenhallen Dortmund has been a central part of the city's event landscape. As a venue for national and international sporting competitions as well as concerts and entertainment events, it has always played a role in shaping cultural life.
Numerous trade fairs and congresses take place every year in the various premises – from the rooms of the congress centre to the nine exhibition halls – making Dortmund an important location.
From 1925 to today: the history of the Westfalenhallen
The history of Westfalenhallen Dortmund began in 1925 with the construction and completion of the wooden structure of the first Westfalenhalle. Since then, Westfalenhallen has had a lasting impact on the city's event and trade fair scene. The hall, which was destroyed during the Second World War, was replaced in 1952 by a new building with a characteristic circular design. Over the decades, further halls were added.
In September 2025, the Westfalenhallen Dortmund celebrated its 100th anniversary with an exhibition, an anniversary reception and a concert by Herbert Grönemeyer.
